iCloud Email

iCloud is an extensive platform invented by Apple and combines a whole range of communication services. With iCloud email (iCloud Mail), you can access your emails from any of your Apple devices,  and also you can manage calendars and contacts. Where the email consists of citation to a meeting, you can sync that quotation with your calendars and contacts who will also attend the meeting, It makes  rescheduling  much easier. If you receive an email it will be immediately accessible in all your devices (so you can grab it from any of the device you have in hand).

iCloud Mail enables you to use these email addresses- @me.com, @iCloud.com and @mac.com .

iCloud Email set up on your iPhone 

  • Go to settings
  • Select your name on the top
  • Select iCloud
  • Switch on Mail
  • A pop-up will appear press create
  • Select the email address of iCloud you want
  • Select next
  • Verify your satisfaction towards it you will not be able to change it afterwards.
  • Click on Done

Once you click done all your email will appear in the Mail app.

iCloud mail on a Mac

  • In the top left corner select the Apple Menu
  • Tab on system preferences
  • Tab on appleID then iCloud if you are using Mac OS catalina10.15 or later
  • Simply tab on iCloud if you are using Mac OS catalina10.14 or earlier
  • For mail select the tick box
  • Select your iCloud email address
  • Click on ok
  • Tab on create only when you are fully satisfied with the email account you have selected.

iCloud mail on windows pc

This is a  bit complicated  set up, but once it’s installed it makes things  much simpler. Just verify you have downloaded and installed iCloud for Windows on your Windows PC before you perform any task iCloud on a Windows PC, but assuming that  you have done this, then complete the following steps:

  • Make sure that  Microsoft Outlook 2007 or later is installed
  • Start iCloud for Windows
  • Open Mail>Contacts>Calendars>Tasks>Apply
  • You would be able to view your  iCloud Mail account to the left of the screen in your navigation pane
  • Tab on the disclosure triangle to the left of your account to help you to see or visit  your iCloud mail accounts in Outlook.

Online iCloud email iCloud mail is also accessible by going to www.icloud.com

Sending Email from iCloud Mail

  1. Open mail and go to cloud.com
  2. Click on the Compose button above the message list.
  3. With a blank message a new window will open.
  4. In the address field write one or more email addresses or names
  5. Click on Return or type a comma at the end of each name or address.
  6. Type a subject for the email in subject field
  7. Select a different address in popup menu if you want to send message from an unusual address
  8. Type your message that you want to send
  9. On the top right hand corner click on send

The time an email sent will appear in  the message list or in the email header .

Make iCloud Email default Address to Send and Receive Mail



  • Open Settings>iCloud>Account.
  • Beneath ‘Advanced’ click Mail.
  • In iCloud Account Information.
  • Select your email address .
  • You will view  a list of usable addresses to assign as your default.
  • Decide your @iCloud.com address.

OS X (on your Mac):

  • Open iCloud Mail 
  • select Preferences>Composing
  • Choose “Send new messages from” 
  • Select your @icloud.com email address.

(on your Windows PC):

In Outlook 2007:

  • Open
  • Tools>Account Settings>Email tab
  • Select your @icloud.com email address 
  • Select  ‘Set as default’

In Outlook 2010 and/or Outlook 2013:

  • Open File>Info>Account Settings
  • Choose ‘Email’
  • Select your @icloud.com email address
  • Now ‘Set as default’

Mail storage limitations of iCloud

Together with your iCloud Account, Apple provides the first 5GB of storage free. But this is to share between your iCloud email, your documents, your account information and all your app data by doing this you  can imagine it doesn’t tend to go relatively far.You can purchase more storage from Apple.

 To do this on your device just follow the below steps

  • Settings>iCloud>Storage>Change Storage Plan. 
  • Open  iCloud Mail>In the Sidebar
  • Tab on the action popup menu>Select Preferences
  • Choose Use Mail Drop under composing when sending large attachments’
  • Click on Done.

If you want to do this  on your Mac 

  • Apple menu>System Preferences>iCloud>iCloud>Manage.

It is important to manage your iCloud settings to organize which app data is being stored and backed up to iCloud. 

To do this on your device 

  • Settings>iCloud 
  • on or off the apps you want iCloud to back up and Sync.

Mail sending limitation of iCloud

  • You are only expected to  send a maximum of 200 messages per day
  • You are allowed to message up to 1000 recipients per day
  • Reach of a message should not be more than 100 recipients
  •  Maximum size of incoming and outgoing mail is 20 MB (unless you are using Mail Drop where up to 5GB is allowed)

If you  exceed your limitations, you will be sent a  message announcing that  your email has been placed in your Outbox because “the message sending failed due to  exceeding  your send limit”.

Mail drop? Setup mail drop

Mail Drop allows you to send  a preview or a hyperlink to download your file (it’s as same as sending a hyperlink in Dropbox or through WeTransfer.com or Yousendit.com). If you prefer to send large files, Mail Drop enables you upload attachments or send hyperlinks up to 5GB in size. The attachment link will be accessible for 30 days after you send  it, have a check  to remind your received to download it earlier than it expires.

If you seek to connect a record which is too large, you will be precipitated “Do you favour to supply the attachments using Mail Drop?”. Simply agree, and the attachments will be uploaded through Mail Drop.
